York County Public Library is committed to supporting local authors through our Local Authors @ the Library program. Authors residing in the Library service area may be considered for an informal book signing and sale event at a table in the lobby of either Yorktown or Tabb libraries. Please fill out and submit the Local Authors request form and library staff will evaluate your request and contact you within two weeks. Slots are booked at least one month in advance.
Local Authors @ the Library Guidelines
Authors from the surrounding localities (Yorktown, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Gloucester) are invited to set up a table in the lobby of the Library to sign and sell their books in a casual low-key setting.
Authors may promote their book for a two-hour time period.
Authors may book up to two times per year.
The Library reserves the right to cancel any bookings. Cancelations will be rescheduled at the library's convenience.
Authors are primarily responsible for promoting the event and should include their own contact information on any promotional materials not the library’s.
The Library does not endorse the content of books or views of the author.
Authors are solely responsible for transport, clean up, supervision of all materials, and book sales. Authors should bring their own cash for sales, library cannot provide change.
The Library will provide one table and one chair. Table dimensions are 5' x 2'.
The Library will advertise the author event on its website and share it once on social media.
Please no “hard sell” tactics. Do not assume library patrons are potential customers. Many library users want to read books, but do not want to buy books.
