Virginiana Collection

The Virginiana Collection is located at the Yorktown Library. This collection contains books, maps, photographs, DVDs and microfilm on the history of Virginia and York County. A variety of genealogy resources are also available. With over 1,000 items in the collection, most are non-circulating. However, some are available to check out. A small sample of items in the collection is listed below.

York County

• York County South Directories from 1965 to 1999 (also known as Polk or crisscross directories)
• York Town Crier newspaper bound, microfilmed or loose copies from 1978 to present
• 1790-1920 Census Records on microfilm
• Colonial Families of York County, Virginia, Vol. 1-2 by Christopher DeMarco
• A Legislative History of the Trustees of the Town of York by William C. Hackworth

Virginia in the Civil War

• The Virginia Civil War Battles and Leaders Series published by H.E. Howard, Inc. centers on the battles, leaders, cities and significant events associated with the Civil War in Virginia
• The Virginia Regimental Histories Series published by H.E. Howard, Inc. includes a detailed roster of soldiers who served in particular units
• Virginia in the Civil War (DVD) produced by the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech
• Virginia Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865 edited by Janet B. Hewett
