The York County Division of Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization has been awarded a seventy-five thousand dollar ($75,000) Community Development Block Grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development to conduct a comprehensive assessment of housing needs along the Penniman Road Corridor. This corridor includes some of the County’s most affordable single-family housing; however, a substantial portion of this housing stock is more than fifty years old and requires rehabilitation. Additionally, because a number of residents within the corridor are elderly, the study will evaluate opportunities for accessibility improvements that support aging in place.
This study will enable the Division of Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization to evaluate housing rehabilitation needs throughout the Penniman Road Corridor, including, but not limited to, Charleston Heights, Middletowne Farms, Nelson Circle/Nelson Park, Parkway Estates, Queenswood, Springfield Terrace, Williams Terrace, York Court/York Terrace, Penniman Road, and Queens Creek Road. The grant will also support the development of a phased strategic plan to address identified needs through future Community Development Block Grant–funded projects.
