Media Information

The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety recognizes the importance of establishing a positive working relationship with the media. We believe that our citizens, businesses, and visitors are entitled to receive accurate, timely and newsworthy information from the media. With this in mind, we're committed to creating a bond of partnership and trust with members of the media.

Fire & Rescue Incident Information

When possible, the department spokesperson will notify local media outlets of significant and newsworthy fire and rescue incidents within York County through the Hampton Roads Emergency Services Media Council paging system.

Incident Scene Access

When you arrive at a fire and rescue incident scene, please request to speak with the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety department spokesperson or incident information officer. If he/she is not on scene, then the incident commander or a designee may be able to meet with you, as time permits. We will do everything we can to provide media access and vantage points for photographs, but understand that this is not always immediately possible. For large-scale incidents, we will identify a media area for interviews and information.

Important to Know

It is not normally the practice of the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety to release information about or involving criminal incidents or vehicle accidents (unless specifically fire related and/or upon the request of the jurisdiction/agency having authority) as this is the jurisdiction of the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office and/or the Virginia State Police.
