Recently Kevin Smith, Library Director, and Bonnie Karwac, Historical Committee Chair, were presented with books about Spain’s contribution to the American Revolution from Teresa Valcarce Graciani, Project Advisor for Spain and the Support of the American Revolution. The books tell the little known history of Spain’s involvement in the American Revolution, especially the efforts of Bernardo Vincente de Gálvez, a Spanish military officer and governor of Spanish Louisiana, who helped finance the Battle of Yorktown and led soldiers into battle against the British in Louisiana and Florida. The books will be added to the Local History collection at the Yorktown Library. The titles are:
- Recovered Memories: Spain, New Orleans and the Support for the American Revolution, edited by José Manuel Guerrero Acosta
- Unveiling Memories: Spain and the Hispanic Contribution to American Independence edited by José Manuel Guerrero Acosta
- And Bernardo de Gálvez Entered Washington by Francisco Reyero
- Get to Know Bernardo de Gálvez by Guillermo Fesser
Recovered Memories and Unveiling Memories are also available digitally.
