FREE Door Scope Viewers for Senior Citizens
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is offering a FREE home safety program for York County and Poquoson senior citizens! Through this initiative, eligible seniors can receive and have installed a Door Scope Viewer—a wide-angle peephole designed to help residents safely see who is at their door without opening it. This program is part of our continued commitment to helping our older residents feel safe, secure, and supported in their homes.

Project Lifesaver Program
The Project Lifesaver Program is meant for individuals that have wondering tendencies do to a medical/cognitive condition and a medical diagnosis such as, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Autism etc. The client must be under the care of a physician that has documented their medical need. The client must not be able to drive or have access to a vehicle. The client must also have 24 hours, 7 days a week, care and are not left alone at any time.

Sheriff's Business Academy
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Business Academy is a FREE program designed to give businesses of York County and the City of Poquoson a better understanding of the crime prevention resources available to them. This 7 week course of instruction is geared towards business owners, managers, faith-based organizations, and anyone who has an invested interest in the day to day operating safety and security of their business.

Sheriff's Citizen Academy
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Citizen Academy is a 43-hour block of instruction designed to give the citizens of York County and the City of Poquoson a working knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office and the criminal justice system.

Sheriff's Citizen Academy for Youth
The Sheriff’s Citizens Academy for Youth is a weeklong class that provides insight into the operations of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. During this one-week, seven hour per day curriculum, subject matter experts from the sheriff’s and other professional fields will instruct you on a variety of subjects pertaining to law enforcement.

Self-Defense Classes
The Rape Aggression Defense System™ is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by nationally certified R.A.D. Instructors and provide each student with a workbook/reference manual

Shop with a Sheriff
"Shop with a Sheriff” is a testament to the generosity of our wonderful community. To ensure that we can continue to provide this positive and meaningful opportunity for the kids, Sheriff Ron Montgomery is asking local businesses, community organizations, and individuals to contribute each year. The Shop with a Sheriff Event is a 501c3 program. All donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made payable to “Shop with a Sheriff” and mailed to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office “Shop with a Sheriff,” P.O. Box 99, Yorktown, VA 23690. Cash or checks can also be dropped off at the Sheriff's Office at 159 Goodwin Neck Road.

Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS)
The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program is a national initiative sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). The program provides guidance, resources, and best practices to law enforcement agencies nationwide to help integrate community volunteers into police and sheriff’s office operations.
