Eastbound Victory Boulevard Turn Lane to Hampton Highway will Temporarily Close through Mid-Summer
As early as June 16, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to implement a continuous, multi-week closure of the eastbound left-turn lane from Victory Boulevard (Route 171) onto Hampton Highway (Route 134) in York County. The closure is estimated to remain in place through mid-summer as construction continues on the Victory Boulevard widening project between Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) and Hampton Highway, which is designed to increase roadway capacity and help alleviate congestion along this corridor. A signed detour will be in place directing eastbound traffic to continue on Victory Boulevard, turn left onto Big Bethel Road, and continue straight onto Yorktown Road to reach Hampton Highway. All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change. See the details here.

Public Hearing: Victory Boulevard Shared-Use Path Project – June 24
VDOT will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 24, from 5–7 p.m. at the Villages of Kiln Creek Recreation Center (2801 Kiln Creek Parkway, Yorktown) to present plans for roadway and pedestrian improvements along Victory Boulevard (Route 171). The proposed project includes a 10-foot shared-use path on the north side of Route 17, new and extended shoulders and turn lane additions at North and South Bowman Terrace and Big Bethel Road. View project plans, speak with VDOT staff, and provide feedback. Mosquito Control

Fight the Bite: Learn and Act During Mosquito Control Awareness Week
Mosquito Control Awareness Week is June 15-21 and is a great opportunity for citizens to learn more about the impact mosquitoes make in our lives every day, and the important role mosquito control plays in working to manage these flying pests. There are several small steps residents can take to help reduce the number of mosquitoes this season. Consider making these part of the normal routine: Tip and toss items that collect water, such as baby pools, tires, flower pots, bird baths, the list goes on! When you’re outside, wear long, loose fitting, and light-colored clothing (mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors), and use an insect repellent registered by the EPA; and finally, toss Mosquito Dunks® anywhere you have standing water in your yard. York County citizens may pick up a free pack of this natural larvacide product (one per resident) at the Waste Management Center, Public Works office, Tabb Library, Yorktown Library, or New Quarter Park. For more information, the Mosquito Control website.

National Night Out

National Night Out 2025 – Get Involved!
National Night Out 2025 is just around the corner, and we encourage all residents and business owners to get involved by registering their neighborhood events. This annual event is a great opportunity to build community connections and strengthen relationships with local law enforcement. Early registration is important, as it helps the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO) plan resources and coordinate deputy visits throughout the county. To ensure your event receives confirmation of attending YPSO resources, be sure to register by July 1, 2025. The deadline to receive confirmation is July 14, 2025, and the final registration deadline is July 22, 2025. Let’s come together to make this year’s National Night Out a safe, fun, and memorable evening for everyone. You can register your neighborhood here.

Each applicant is required to pass a criminal background check conducted by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. Class is limited to 12 students.  Apply here.
